We are delighted to be working exclusively in partnership with our client who specialises in independent asset management and consultancy services, specifically in the forestry and woodland management sector.

Due to continued expansion our client is looking for a Senior Forestry Consultant to work alongside their existing team based in Scotland.

To be successful for the role, you will live within a commutable distance of the Dumfries office, as you will be required to travel between Dumfries and the borderlands region. You will have previous experience with taking the lead in the day-to-day running’s of an office as well as setting financial targets.

Your day-to-day tasks will comprise of forest management and consultancy along with arboriculture management on a range of properties with tasks including budgeting and operations planning, contract organisation and supervision, liaison with agencies, clients, and their staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking the primary relationship role with a number of clients, providing strategic estate woodland and forest management advice and overseeing all aspects of delivery including:

  • Management planning

  • Grant Scheme applications and management of grant related works

  • Timber harvesting and marketing

  • Restocking and maintenance

  • Planning and implementation of new woodland creation schemes

  • Forestry and woodland mapping and data management via GIS

  • Forest and woodland certification

  • Tree safety surveys

  • Implementation of tree surgery works

  • BS 5837 surveys - trees in relation to construction

  • Budgeting and financial management

  • Carbon offsetting / Woodland Carbon Code

  • Working with the Dumfries Office senior rural team, with responsibility for delivering the forestry strategy within the locality and driving the business forward.

  • Consistently delivering high performance.

  • To contribute to and support business development initiatives and tenders, targeting and winning new business, and agreeing the scope of instructions and fees as appropriate.

  • To ensure sound financial management by monitoring forecast and actual income and expenditure, debtors, and recovery of disbursements at both departmental and client levels.

  • To help promote and deliver the firm’s compliance procedures and standards.

  • In addition to the tasks described above, the job holder may be required to carry out other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.

  • To conduct regular 121’s, hold team meetings and complete thorough probationary, interim and annual appraisals as per company guidelines.

Technical experience: -

  • BSc. or MSc. Forestry, or related.

  • Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (or working towards).

  • LANTRA Professional Tree Inspector (advantageous).

  • Highly competent and skilled with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and GIS proficient; training will be provided in respect of internal systems.

  • Clear written and verbal communication style.

  • Driving licence essential.
